Netflix nabs all 8 seasons of Dexter in streaming deal with Showtime

Netflix (s NFLX) and Showtime parent company CBS (s CBS) have signed a deal to make all eight seasons of the recently ended Dexter available for streaming. The first four seasons of the show will start streaming in the U.S. starting on October 31, and seasons five through eight will be available on January 1, 2014.

Dexter just wrapped up its eighth and final season on September 22. “We’re thrilled to have Dexter, one of Showtime’s highest-rated shows, on Netflix, and so quickly after it completed its record-breaking run,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, said in a statement.

CBS used to make a bunch of Showtime shows — including Dexter, in fact — available for streaming on Netflix, but in 2011 it pulled them from the service in the U.S. The renewed availability of Dexter suggests that CBS is open to licensing these shows again but may do…
